Title
Wellness Workshop: Musical Strength
Abstract
This workshop will investigate the relationship between strength and the prevalence of performance related injuries. The importance of exercise in injury prevention is well documented but many musicians are unsure where to being when it comes to strength training. Attendees will learn simple functional strength training exercises, that can be completed with minimal equipment, which will improve stage presence, increase performing stamina, and decrease injury risk. A whole body workout will be discussed but attention will be placed on strengthening the core and engaging stabilizing muscle patterns for the upper extremities. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing which allows movement.

Wellness Workshop: Fluid Flexibility
Abstract
This workshop will investigate the relationship between flexibility and the prevalence of performance related injuries. Questions addressed include: what is a healthy level of flexibility; when is flexibility dangerous; and how can breath assist in flexibility training? Attendees will learn proper stretching techniques and a healthy stretching routine for the entire body. Techniques taught will increase muscle length and decreased muscle tension. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing which allows movement.
U of Minnesota Duluth
April 25-26 2013 I will be a guest artist at the University of Minnesota in Duluth. I’m extremely excited for this events as I will get to collaborate with an outstanding composer, Justin Henry Rubin. Justin and I have never meet in person but I’ve premiered two of his chamber works in 2012 and love his music. While on campus, tentative activities include: an injury prevention workshop, bassoon masterclass, and working with the composition students on new unaccompanied works written for bassoon.
